Do you have a safeguarding policy? If not, you can adapt the one-page policy for your club here.
If you have child members, are your coaches and club safeguarding officer DBS-checked with England Netball (not just through work)? You can find more on DBS below, including links to apply.
Have you made sure members and parents know who the club safeguarding officer is and how to contact them? It is a good idea to publicise this via your website or social media platforms.
Have players and parents consented to photos being taken and used, and for medication to be administered?
Are medical conditions, disabilities or neurodivergences recorded and relevant staff informed?
Do enough people have up-to-date first aid training?
Do people need to renew their mandatory safeguarding training (this should happen every 3 years)? Find out more here.
Has everyone signed the code of conduct?
Has the club communicated what behaviour is expected of players and parents and what they can expect from coaches in terms of communication?
We recommend sending useful safeguarding information to members throughout the season. For example, links from the EN safeguarding pages, the NSPCC, Ann Craft Trust, Internet Watch Foundation, CEOP or your local Active Partnership. |

Effective from 1st September 2026, the government changed the legislation regarding DBS rules.
Any volunteer or coach who has contact with children 4 or more times per month must have a DBS check via England Netball (not their employer), even if they are supervised by another DBS-checked person. This primarily affects Level 1 coaches and team managers.
Anyone with a UK or Irish passport and a photo driving licence can now verify their documents online, meaning no more trips to the Post Office. There is still the Post Office option for those who don't, or who fail the online verification. The new instructions on how to apply, including who needs a DBS, are available via the link below. |
